Queen of the Nile pokies: free spins and features

What is Queen of the Nile?

Queen of the Nile is a venue pokie by Aristocrat, first released in the late 1990s, with an Ancient Egyptian theme. It became one of the best known pokies in Australian clubs and pubs and inspired a long line of sequels and Egypt-themed games from other makers. Many Australians still search for it by name.

How does the base game work?

The base game is a classic five-reel video pokie with paylines. Two symbols do most of the work:

• The Queen (wild) substitutes for every symbol except the pyramid scatter. When she completes a win as a substitute, that win is doubled.
• The pyramid (scatter) pays anywhere on the reels, regardless of paylines, and triggers the free games.

How do the free games work?

Three or more pyramid scatters trigger the free games feature. During the free games, all wins are tripled, and the feature can be won again by landing more pyramids. In the original game the feature awards 15 free games; later editions changed the number of free games, for example by awarding more for four or five scatters.

What are the sequels?

The success of the original led to several follow-ups. Queen of the Nile II refreshed the graphics and changed the free games to a choice between options, trading fewer spins for higher multipliers or more spins for lower ones. Later editions and related games such as King of the Nile reused the theme with other features. Each version has its own maths, shown on the machine's information screen.

Can you play Queen of the Nile online?

Aristocrat offers its games online mainly through social casino apps, run by its studio Product Madness, where you play with virtual coins that cannot be cashed out. In some regulated markets overseas, Aristocrat Interactive supplies real money versions to licensed online casinos. At the casino sites that accept Australian players, the original venue game is rarely available.

Egypt-themed online pokies are easy to find, though. Book of Dead is the best known, with an expanding symbol in free spins. Our Aristocrat online pokies page covers the maker's other classics, including 5 Dragons and Where's the Gold.

How do you keep classic pokie play under control?

Classic pokies are simple and quick, which makes long sessions easy. Set a budget and a time limit before you start, and stop when you reach either. In social casino apps, coin purchases are real money with no return. Gambling Help Online offers free, confidential support 24/7 on 1800 858 858.
