What is Where's the Gold?
Where's the Gold is a venue pokie by Aristocrat with a gold rush theme: miners, gold nuggets and the hunt for a big find. It has been a familiar sight in Australian clubs and pubs for years, and it remains one of the Aristocrat classics people search for by name.
How does Where's the Gold play?
Where's the Gold plays like many Aristocrat classics. Line wins pay along the active lines, a wild symbol helps complete them, and scatter symbols trigger a free games feature where most of the larger wins come from. Versions differ between machines and markets, so the details that matter (how many scatters trigger the feature, how many free games you get, and any multipliers) are shown on the machine's information screen. Open it before you play.
How do you read a venue pokie's information screen?
A venue pokie's information screen shows the paytable, the features and the return to player. In Victoria, for example, venue pokies must return at least 85% to players over time, and the screen shows the figure for that game. Look for:
| Item | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Return to player | The long-run share of bets paid back |
| Paytable | What each symbol pays at your bet |
| Feature rules | How free games are triggered and how they pay |
| Bet options | The number of lines and credits per line |
Our guide to how pokies work explains these terms in detail.
Can you play Where's the Gold online?
Aristocrat offers its games online mainly through social casino apps, run by its studio Product Madness, where you play with virtual coins that cannot be cashed out. In some regulated markets overseas, Aristocrat Interactive supplies real money versions to licensed online casinos. At the casino sites that accept Australian players, the original venue game is rarely available.
If you like the classic feel, five-reel online pokies with scatters and free spins are widely available in demo mode; see our free online pokies guide. For other Aristocrat favourites, see our guides to Queen of the Nile and More Chilli.
How do you keep classic pokie play under control?
Venue classics are fast and familiar, and familiarity can make it easy to play longer than planned. Decide your budget and time before you start, and stop when you reach either. Gambling Help Online offers free, confidential support 24/7 on 1800 858 858.
Gambling is for adults only (18+).
